THE FULL RENOVATION

I guess we must admit that we christians, and especially we pentecostals, are fairly insignificant marginal group in our societies. The gap becomes so evident and clear, when we compare the present time to the apostolic one. Those who turned the world upside down went everywhere and brought about either revival or persecution. No one remained indifferent. One reason for this present invisibility certainly is the following fact: Jesus has paid the full price for our houses of dust:"For you were bought at a price: therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's." (1.Cor.6:20) Nevertheless the Lord has to live as subtenant in our houses, though he'd like to be Master in his own real estate. The most pious ones of us give two rooms for him. The most only one. As a gentleman, he doesn't occupy the house (he has given us free will), but he exhorts, persuades and knocks on the door patiently:"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice ! and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me." (Rev.3:20) What will happen if we give him the right to the entire real estate? The full renovation will start, of course.

First he will throw out the old pieces of furniture:"Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, sefish ambitions, dissentions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like."(Gal 5:19-21) After the renovation, he will bring in his own pieces of furniture:"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control:"(Gal.5:22)

The next thing is the inner renovation. It goes from the livingroom of the heart and mind , through kitchen, that is stomach, to the basement of subconscious:"that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish." (Eph.5:26,27) "how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your consciense from dead works to serve the living God?" (Hebr.9:14) After this kind of renovation and cleansing even our eyes, those mirrors of the soul, are clean and bright. Everybody can see who lives inside:"The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light."(Matt.6:22) If necessary, he can renovate the outside, too:"The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor hear the gospel preached to them."(Matt.11:5) "Then Jesus went about all the cities and villlages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every dicease among the people." (Matt.9:35) Even the writer has got blemishes in his facade and the roof tiles has fallen to the ground, but:"Therefore we do not loose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day." (2.Cor.4:16) I strongly believe that if we submit ourselves into this kind of renovation, we shall not be an insignificant group in the margin of the society anymore. Each one of us shall have the power and influeance in his own area. The more we give to him, the more he gives to us of his own:"He must increase, but I must decrease." (John 3:30) This is the key to the spiritual revival we all are waiting for.
